Whilst the major engagements of the last military campaign of the Emperor Napoleon is being carried out in the plains of Belgium, general Rapp has been given charge of the Army of the Rhine in order to protect France's eastern borders from the Allies. The 248th Marching Detachement, a provisional unit composed of drafts from different units within the regular army and the national guard, has been assigned the task of keeping watch over the area between Riquewihr and Kaysersberg. | The detachement at Riquewihr |
